Description
This 1/100 Troy Ounce 24 karat pure [0.999 fine] "ROYAL WEDDING" Aurum Gold Note is a legal tender bill under the statutes of Cook Island
and is considered a "coin." It was produced for the Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle held on May 19, 2018, in the tiny St. George Chapel at Windsor Castle (depicted in the background). This official wedding ceremony was the subject of considerable controversy after Meghan told Oprah Winfrey in a TV interview that the couple "got married in secret three days before their official wedding." The wedding had been viewed by more than a billion people, and so the statement by Meghan was a bombshell that was cleared up by the Archbishop of Canterbury.
T
he Cook Islands Central Bank backed this 1/100 oz. "coin" as the first legal tender note employing the Aurum technology, and many more have followed this first one. It has a face value of in the Cook Islands, a nation associated with New Zealand and consisting of some 15 islands in the South Pacific. The New Zealand Government chose Valaurum, Inc., of Portland, Oregon, to manufacture these "ROYAL WEDDING" Gold Notes, and for a good reason. Unrestricted by the limits placed on pure gold notes that lack color and instead concentrate on design and holograms, the Aurum process deposits vaporized gold in a vacuum, layering the precious metal in finely measured amounts to substrates of polyester. The result is a durable, full color, two-sided Aurum Gold Note that has become so popular that several U.S. States [Utah first, followed by Nevada and New Hampshire] issue Aurum Notes in the form of "Goldbacks," ranging in denominations from 1 to 50. Buyers and Sellers in those States can use this "voluntary currency" to carry out daily transactions. Other foreign nations have adopted Aurums as legal tender currency, including Ghana and Solomon Islands.
T
he Obverse of the Cook Island note bears an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II produced by Ian Rank-Broadly, whose initials appear under the portrait. The note's identifying alphanumeric serial number appears on this Obverse, along with assay details as to the note's weight and gold purity. The phrase
Del Gratia Regina
at the top translates to
"By the Grace of God, Queen."
Security features include a crystallized scale effect along with truly stunning "guilloche" engraving (repeated details) that cover the coin [or Note's] Obverse. The "ROYAL WEDDING" Note is secured in a bill sleeve attached to the inside of a Golden Life Card with its "mini-bio" of the item [see photo]. Also included is a colorfully designed envelope perfect for storing the Note or gifting it. [NOTE: The first two pictures above are Stock Photos, but I Guarantee the "ROYAL WEDDING" Aurum Note a buyer receives matches in quality the one photographed.] The news at present is flooded with the Harry and Meghan drama, but what the future holds is unknown. That alone suggests this Note also has an interesting future.
