1 Nevada Goldback is an example of currency made of spendable, physical gold and in Nevada is considered a "Voluntary Local Currency" for those businesses and service providers willing to accept it.  With Utah's passage of its 2011 Legal Tender Act which led to the Utah Goldback, the State of Nevada created its own Goldbacks. Unique features of Goldbacks include the fact each succeeding face value from 1 to 50 grows slightly larger in size. Various security measures are used in the production of the Aurum Notes, which relies on a process derived from the computer chip industry to create durable but colorfully designed Notes able to withstand the wear and tear of daily use.
Artist Cheri Jensen (who created the Utah Goldback series) designed the Nevada Goldbacks with impressive attention to detail and iconography. The 1 Nevada Goldback design is centered on
CARITAS
(Charity) in the guise of Mother Mary, Nevada having adopted Catholicism as its most dominant religion. Lady Charity is seen next to a pillar while two cherubs place a crown on her head as two pheasants rest at her feet. At Charity's feet to the right are Sierra Nevada Lilies and to the left a container holding Mary Magdalene Roses. Holding a Candle of Charity, the Mother Mary figure has the word "LOVE" woven into the bottom of her dress. While the "1 Nevada Goldback" Note has a mirror like gold background, the Note is dominated by a green hue highlighting every aspect of the design. A unique ID Serial Number is printed on the far left of the Obverse, and near it is the Aurum logo. At the bottom are the assay details of weight and purity as well as the Notice: "For Circulation in Nevada." The Note is secured in a Bill Sleeve attached to the inside of a Golden Life Card with its "mini-bio" of the item [see photo]. A colorfully designed envelope is also included to store the Note or gift it. These early edition [Utah and Nevada] Aurum Notes make beautiful yet inexpensive collectibles.
