This 1/1000 Troy ounce "1 Utah Goldback" Aurum Note is a "voluntary local currency" distributed in the State of Utah and is legal tender among agreeing buyers and sellers in
Utah.
Each Goldback note has a Virtue associated with it.
Prudentiae
or Prudence is the virtue on the Utah 1 Goldback, the first Goldbacks ever produced, and is meant to represent the ideal that before one can gain experience, wisdom or authority, it is important to first be patient and exercise forethought. This is expressed through Prudence’s posture, as well as the mirror that she is looking into.
Prudence herself represents the Native American tribes within the state of Utah in appearance and dress, with the Ute, Paiute, Navajo, Iroquois, and Goshute tribes being incorporated into her design.
Elements in the image representing balance in all things (wolf), longevity (bristlecone pine), and peace (Prudence’s sandstone throne), among others, are also incorporated into the design.
The color scheme is muted green on gold. With Utah's passage of its 2011 Legal Tender Act which led to the Utah Goldback, the State of Nevada encouraged creation of its own Goldbacks, soon followed by New Hampshire. Unique features of Goldbacks include the fact each succeeding face value from 1 to 50 grows slightly larger in size. Various security measures are used in the production of the Aurum Notes, which relies on a process derived from the computer chip industry to create durable but colorfully designed Notes able to withstand the wear and tear of daily use.
Artist Cheri Jensen created the Utah Goldback series with impressive attention to detail and iconography.
Various security measures are used in producing Goldbacks, each of which carries a unique ID Serial Number on the middle left of the Obverse. Assay details of weight and purity are noted at the bottom of the 1 Utah Goldback, which is protected in a cellophane sleeve attached inside a Golden Life Card with its "mini-bio" of this Goldback [see photo]. In addition, buyers receive a colorfully designed envelope perfect for storing the Goldback or gifting it.
