Designs
The front features Reverentia (Reverence), depicted as a Shoshone Native American. She stands proudly in Wyoming’s Northeastern plains wearing a traditional buckskin dress with a bald eagle perched on her arm. There are sunflowers, ladybugs, and a bison skull in the forefront, and a standing bison and Mato Tipila (also known as Devil’s Tower) in the background.
History of the Goldback
Following passage of the Utah Legal Tender Act, refining technology advanced to a point where thin gold notes containing .999 pure gold content could be produced in small increments that made it more affordable to own gold and feasible to actually consider its use again as a form of currency. While the act only applies to vendors and individuals in the state of Utah, the idea that gold could return as a form of currency not subject to the inflation of fiat currencies is an exciting one.
While the average 1 oz gold coin may have a nominal face value, the amount of gold contained within the coin makes its value incredibly high in the commercial world. For example, it would be impossible to grocery shop with a 1 oz gold bullion coin. However, at just 1/1000 Troy oz of gold content, something like the 1 Gold Utah Goldback Note opens the door to the exciting potential of a strong form of currency. Currently, these Utah Goldback Notes are a local voluntary form of currency vendors can choose to accept in the state of Utah.
Technology
The creation of the Goldback relies on 5th generation vacuum deposition technology. The designs are printed on a sheet of polymer that is then bombarded with the correct amount of atomized gold particles in a vacuum chamber. This gold is then sealed inside by a second protective barrier of polymer, thus creating a beautiful negative image. Legal Tender?
