CEREMONIAL WARRIOR WAR SHIRT Double Beads Fringed Tigua Indian Deer Skin Regalia
For your consideration is this authentic
    Native American war shirt
, handcrafted by Tigua Indian artist Manny Silvas. This decorative doe skin leather warrior shirt represents a rich part of Indian history with great attention to detail, made with real deer skin leather. This decorative war shirt is designed as a rustic Southwestern style wall hanging. Made with hand stitching, this is an exquisite piece with great eye appeal.
American Indian war shirts are traditionally made using natural materials and items collected during battle. Rich old style brown deer skin leather gives this shirt its rich warm look and the intricate hand bead work doubled band will add a feel of quality to any wall in your home or cabin. Heavy leather fringe adds to the rustic look of this warrior shirt made with top grain leather for beauty and high value. This is a high quality war shirt that looks awesome hanging on the wall. This shirt also includes Lakota Sioux Indian bead work and a real bone breast plate as seen in the picture.
Traditionally, war shirts were earned by warriors for their performance and bravery in battle. Often pieces taken from the battle were used in the design. It is possible that an outstanding warrior would own several war shirts. Each shirt would be unique to the wearer and would be decorated accordingly. Horse hair or leather fringe is almost always included, representing the wind to help move the warrior swiftly.
This ceremonial war shirt is a work of art and comes ready to hang with an included red wool wrapped wall hanger. Native American war shirts make perfect rustic wall decor for southwest style and western home decorating. Measures approx 64 1/2" wide x 42" tall. Comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.

    * The Ghost dance was initiated by a Native American shaman named Wovoka, who was a member of the Paiute Tribe. Like other Native American dances, it served many spiritual purposes as well as bring the Native American community together. The Ghost dance was part of his movement to help Plains Indian Tribes try to recover and heal from the many problems and changes they faced from the whiteman in the second half of the 1800's.
The Ghost Dance is a circle dance that focused on embracing the ways of the past and rejecting some of the negative influences of white people in a peaceful way. This included creating a connection to the earth as well as to ancestors or the dead and trying to end the mourning of those that have more recently passed, through dancing and singing of prayers. It quickly spread throughout many Native American tribes and the gatherings brought many tribes together in one place. The ceremonial Ghost Shirts were usually decorated with elements that represented Nature's connection to the people.
Unfortunately, the large gathering of the Indian tribes at these Ghost Dances alarmed the whiteman's government at the time in the 1880's and rumors of a Native uprising caused the government to send troops to disburse the gatherings, usually in a violent way. Somehow the belief evolved that the Ghost Shirts would become bullet-proof and the Indian warriors would wear them into battles with the US Cavalry, with disastrous results! Many battles ended up with massacres of the Native Americans. The Ghost Shirts therefore developed a negative connotation to it because of this misguided belief.
In today's time, the Ghost Shirt has been modernized into beautiful displays of artwork usually embellished with intricate beadwork, fringes and other elements. The Ghost Dance is still practiced today in private Native American ceremonies. Its symbolism portrays a strong belief in the need for healing of the earth and mankind.
