Israeli Army 'Shekem' base exchange (PX) 1970s era 'Shabbat Coupon'with
imprinted prices for 3 different soft drinks
- Cola at 35 Agorot, Bottle at 15 Agorot, and Taami at 50 Agorot, for a total of 1 Lira. This voucher would have been used by Shabbat observant soldiers to receive the drinks in exchange without having to actually transact money in violation of Sabbath observance. 'Shekem' began in 1948 as a chain of canteens serving the Israeli Army; in 1950 it came under the control of the Ministry of Defence (servicing any agencies under its control) and over time increasingly served the private/commercial sector eventually being sold off to private investors.
