    Description

This "2021 United Republic of Tanzania" 1,000 Shillings [
    Shilingi Elfu Moja
] Aurum Gold Note weighs 1/1000th Troy Ounce [0.001 oz. or 0.311 grams] and was produced by Valaurum, Inc., of Portland, Oregon in a proprietary process derived from the computer chip industry. A vaporized spray of pure gold is layered in a vacuum chamber onto polyester substrates to create a durable but beautifully colorized two-sided Gold Note. The 1,000 Shilling value of this Aurum Note establishes that these are now legal tender currency for circulation in Tanzania. The Note celebrates the vast fishing industry that surrounds Lake Victoria and Lake
    Tanganyika
, one of the lakes in the Great Rift Valley system in Africa. For visitors wanting to fish on Lake Victoria or the many other lakes and streams in Tanzania, boatmen gladly arrange to accompany them on daily trips to snag Nile Perch and Tilapia in the offshore waters. Fly fishing is also popular, as deep water fishing in the Indian Ocean along Tanzania's coast, which is rich in big-game fish from marlin and tuna to swordfish and biting barracudas. Tanzania produces more than 20,000 tons of fish per annum, much of it exported. On the Obverse of this "2021 Republic of Tanzania" Aurum Gold Note is a rendition of a
synodontis multipunctatus, also known as "cuckoo catfish," "cuckoo squeaker
    " or
    "multipunk."
These so-called "upside down" catfish are "brood parasites." They manage to deposit eggs in other fish species' mouths that will hatch there, allowing the "cuckoo catfish" to avoid raising its own young. The Reverse of this Note portrays a traditional  Tanzanian fishing boat, called a "Dhow," in recognition of the important role the tourist fishing industry plays in building that nation's economic security. The Note measures 130 X 66mm and has a total mintage of 10,000 worldwide. Like every Aurum Note, this one  carries a unique ID Serial Number and various anti-counterfeiting measures.
